Alcohol dependence symptoms: What causes alcohol dependence?

There are a number of different factors that may trigger one into becoming alcohol dependent. This if not addressed, can run down a family. Therefore if it is in the genes or the environment one grows up in can be a contributing factor.

Stressful events like losing your livelihood or bereavement can also trigger heavy drinking leading to alcohol dependence.

Alcoholism is associated with depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder and psychosis and drug misuse. Because of the self-medication reasons, when alcohol is made part of the depression and the likes, the brain will be interfered with leading to alcohol dependence.

Alcohol dependence symptoms: Reduce risk of becoming alcohol dependent

The best thing one can do is to reduce tolerance to alcohol. Simple things like taking regular breaks in drinking are essential in reducing the risk of becoming dependent on alcohol. Remember that tolerance is a physiological response we have to any drug. That is to say, the more you consume, the more your body needs to have the same effect. Regular drinking induces certain enzymes in your liver that break up alcohol. If you drink heavily over weeks or months, levels of these enzymes go up, your tolerance builds and you need more alcohol to get the same effects.

Brain systems get tolerant to alcohol too, and although you may be able to walk a straight line after drinking quite a lot, this means the brain has adapted so that next day the brain cells ‘expect’ alcohol. Withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety and jitteriness occur, and you can find yourself drinking alcohol just to relieve that. Finally, when drinking most days, becoming psychologically dependent on alcohol is inevitable.

Alcohol abuse facts

Alcohol abuse facts: Vital Facts about

Alcohol abuse facts

Alcohol abuse facts. We must not be ignorant of what excessive drinking of alcohol can do you our lives and health

Alcohol is not only the most abused substance, but it’s also very addictive. It can cause irredeemable harm and damages when abused.  It may not matter what you think about this, but alcohol abuse facts will always remain. And it’s not about the brand you take, it’s about the alcohol content in it. According to doctor Dalal Akoury MD and founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource center, when it comes to alcohol abuse, the damage is caused more by what you don’t know. To us, your health is more important and that’s why we want to share with you some alcohol abuse facts you need to know. But before that, let’s bring in some statistics according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) survey. It was established that up to 56 percent of American adults age 18 and above have consented to have had alcohol previously while some 24 percent acknowledged binge drinking.

Now with that statistic at the back of your mind, you may want to think again before you grab that drink. The following facts about alcohol abuse may help you make an informed decision.

Alcohol abuse facts: Ethyl alcohol ingredient in alcoholic drinks

Ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, is produced from fermented yeast, sugars, and starches from a variety of grains, fruits, vegetables, and plants. Ethyl alcohol is fundamentally the same in all types of alcoholic beverages, and when you drink in moderation, your liver can comfortably metabolize alcohol from any of these beverages. But heavy drinking overwhelms your liver, and excess alcohol circulates through every organ in your body, including your brain. This is what makes you drunk.

Alcohol abuse facts: You may be drinking more than you realize

Standard alcoholic beverages, contain about 14 grams (0.6 ounces) of pure alcohol. Like for instance, beer has 12 ounces (oz), wine 5oz, distilled spirits 1.5oz and malt liquor has between 8oz to 9oz. However, what you’re served in your usual joint in most cases miss these standards. A single cocktail may have alcoholic content of up to 3 times of the standard drink. Therefore, if you want to be on the safer side, both men and women should not go beyond 4 drinks and 3 drinks per day respectively. This is important if you want to remain healthy.

Alcohol abuse facts: Taking alcohol in moderation

Doctor Akoury says that alcohol like other chemicals may be good for your health in low doses and becomes toxic in higher doses. Moderate alcohol intake helps in reducing emotional and physical responses to stress though just for a while. But when taken in excess, it will affects the brain by changing your nerve cells and brain connections. With these alterations, users start behaving funny and violent in most cases.

Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are different

Alcohol abuse is drinking in a disorderly manner that causes problems in one’s life resulting into one neglecting family and employment responsibilities. The other part is alcoholism which causes changes to the neurons in the brain creating obsessions like the feeling of compulsive drinking. This is a push beyond the user to drink even they didn’t intent to. And that explains why alcoholism is considered by many experts to be a chronic, or lifelong, disease. It can cause death, fatal accidents among many other dangerous outcomes.

The dangers of alcohol withdrawal

Sudden withdrawal from alcohol can impact on the user negatively. This can cause a condition known as delirium tremens (DTs). When this is stretched beyond limit may result in uncontrollable seizures. You can actually be safe from all these if you do the right thing. Calling doctor Akoury on (843) 2131480 should be your starting point, alternatively, you can call AWAREmed health center online for a more professional input.

Stomach cancer treatment

Stomach cancer treatment: The stage of cancer affects treatment

Stomach cancer treatment

Stomach cancer treatment must address all the causes and symptoms of the cancer cells. It begins and includes healthy living.

Stomach cancer treatment can be approached from several treatment options. All the options are essential in fighting stomach cancer. However, the choice will depend on the level of the disease. Your doctor will make this decision depending on how long you’ve had the disease or how much it has spread in the other parts of the body. Treatment procedures are the same as with other types of cancer. Besides surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, your doctor may also opt for chemoradiation and targeted drugs

Stomach cancer treatment: Surgery

Surgery. With surgery, the surgeon might remove part of your stomach or other tissues nearby that have cancer cells. The goodness of surgery as a stomach cancer treatment solution is that it gets rid of the tumor and stops cancer from spreading to other parts of the body. However, when the disease has advanced and spread much, it may be necessary to remove the whole stomach. Some tumors can keep food from moving in and out of your stomach. In that case, you might have surgery to put in a stent, a device that keeps the pathways open.

Stomach cancer treatment: Chemotherapy

Chemo drugs will either kill all the cancer cells or frustrate their growth. They can be administered orally as pills or through an IV at a clinic. The patient must be ready for the treatment since chemo usually takes several weeks. Though there could be some side effects of using these drugs, your doctor will help you find ways to feel better during treatment. And as experts from the AWAREmed health and wellness resource center under the leadership of doctor Dalal Akoury MD, knowing what it is be going through this painful treatment exercise, we give tailored treatment solutions that meet individual needs of our patients. Radiation. High-energy waves or particles can kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Your doctor may use an X-ray or another machine to beam radiation at the spot where your tumor is.

Chemoradiation. Your doctor might use this mix of chemotherapy and radiation to shrink your tumor before surgery.

Targeted drugs. These newer drugs are different because they fight only cancer cells. Other treatments, like chemo and radiation, can kill healthy cells along with diseased ones. As a result, targeted therapies have fewer side effects than these other treatments.

Stomach cancer treatment: How can I prevent stomach cancer?

We can’t overemphasize that prevention is better than treatment. It saves you time, money and eliminates pain. Cancer is torturous and if you can prevent it, please do. Doctor Akoury advises that among the ways of preventing this disease is by timely treatment of all stomach infections. If you have ulcers from an H. pylori infection, get treatment. Antibiotics can kill the bacteria, and other drugs will heal the sores in the lining of your stomach to cut your risk of cancer. Besides that live a healthy lifestyle and desire to forever feed only on healthy foodstuff. Finally, don’t be in the habit of smoking, this multiplies the risks.

Colon cancer treatment

Colon cancer treatment will be effective when the right diagnosis to done timely

The type of colon cancer treatment that is likely to be recommended by your doctor will depend basically on the stage of your cancer. There are four stages of cancer (I, II, III, and IV). The three primary treatment options available for colon cancer treatment. And they include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Colon cancer treatment: Surgery for early-stage colon cancer

When surgery is applied for colon cancer treatment, it can be done in two ways depending on the size of the tumor. Where the colon cancer is very small, the doctor may recommend a minimally invasive approach to surgery like:

Removing polyps during a colonoscopy. In cases of small cancer, localized and completely contained within a polyp in the very early stage, the doctor may be able to remove it entirely during a colonoscopy.

Endoscopic mucosal resection. Removing larger polyps may require also taking a small amount of the lining of the colon or rectum in a procedure called an endoscopic mucosal resection.

Minimally invasive surgery. Any polyps which can’t be removed during a colonoscopy can be removed using laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon performs an operation through several small incisions in the patient’s abdominal wall, inserting instruments with attached cameras that display the colon on a video monitor.

Colon cancer treatment: Surgery for invasive colon cancer

If cancer has grown the following may be recommended:

Partial colectomy. Under this procedure, the surgeon removes part of the colon that containing cancer together with a margin of normal tissue on either side of cancer. This procedure can be done using a minimally invasive approach (laparoscopy).

Surgery to help in the waste disposal from the body. Where reconnecting the healthy portions of the colon or rectum isn’t possible, an ostomy may become necessary to create a wall in the abdomen from a portion of the remaining bowel for the discharge of stool into a bag that fits securely over the opening. This can be temporary to allow the colon and rectum to heal after surgery, but in the extreme, it may be permanent.

Lymph node removal. Nearby lymph nodes are usually also removed during colon cancer surgery and tested for cancer.

Colon cancer treatment: Surgery for advanced cancer

Finally, where cancer has advanced and the patients are very poor, an operation may be recommended to relieve a blockage of the colon or other conditions primarily to improve on the symptoms. It is important to note that this isn’t meant to cure cancer, instead, it’s to relieve signs and symptoms, such as bleeding and pain. We appreciate the kind of pain that comes with such procedures.
