Cancer U turn

Nearly a quarter of deaths in America every year are caused by cancer, where an estimated 1.5 million new cases of will be diagnosed in 2009.  Cancers of the prostate and breast will be the most frequently diagnosed cancers in men and women, respectively, followed by lung and colorectal cancers in both genders. The good news is that experts in health, lifestyle, and medicine in the AWAREmed Lifestyle 101 program can teach you how to avoid becoming one of these statistics as you reclaim your health and vitality.

Some startling statistics:

There will be an estimated 292,540 men and 269,800 women who die of cancer in 2009 (American Cancer Society). Lung cancer is, by far, the most common fatal cancer in men (30%), followed by prostate (9%), and colon/rectal (9%).  In women, lung (26%), breast (15%), and colon/rectum (9%) are the leading sites of cancer that lead to death.

You can change this!

Vitamin C was found to stop the growth of tumor cells, while not harming normal cells. When combined with retinoic acid, vitamin C prevented the spread of breast cancer cells.In cases where children were given alternative/complementary treatments as part of a cancer treatment plan, 83% reported significant benefit, particularly with side effects of conventional treatment.

Seventy three percent of long-term cancer survivors take supplements.Spirituality is an important aspect of cancer treatment and care, and many of those who choose alternative and complementary treatments combine these aspects for a more wholistic approach and enhanced quality of life.Lifestyle 101 addresses four key components of a healthy lifestyle: nutrition, exercise, stress management, and spirituality.

Food is Medicine: An experienced medical nutritionist  will offer nutrition education specific to cancer regression and prevention.
You. will visit the grocery store on a group field trip and learn to make healthy selections up and down the aisles. In hands-on kitchen skills sessions, will guide and teach you how to make health-promoting whole and healthy food delicious.

Exercise:

Our Cinzia exercise physiologists will help you to customize workouts that include walking, resistance training, and other physical activities. You will learn exercises that can easily continue at home with hand weights, exercise balls, and stretch bands.







Stress management:
You will learn stress management techniques with our experts, who will lend support as you practice until you master them. A first class certified Yoga instructor will teach you simple postures and breathing exercises to help you unwind, and a Reiki Master will guide you as you learn to release tension from mind and spirit.

Spirituality:

In a way free of religion, our spiritual coaches will help you find your place and connection to everything around you. You will discover how important this is, and how this connection impacts your health. After you complete the initial six week program of 12 four-hour sessions, you will be enrolled in five follow-up sessions over the following year. You will then be eligible for additional sessions in subsequent years, as well as becoming a lifetime member of the AWAREness Accountable program.
