According to the American Heart Association and the most recent statistics, more than 36% of adults in the US have chronic heart disease, leading to an annual death rate of 300 Americans out every thousand dying from heart disease.Heart disease can be prevented. Appropriate diet, physical activity, stress reduction, and weight management are all factors that are easily controlled through lifestyle choices and habits.

Smoking and high blood pressure are responsible for the largest number of deaths in the US than any other risk factor.

A number of dietary, lifestyle, and metabolic risk factors for chronic diseases also cause a substantial number of deaths in the US annually, many related to heart disease. Children as young as 9 years old have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, brought about by negative effects of poor diet, inadequate activity, and obesity.

Learning to Take Care of Your Body

Lifestyle 101 will empower you with all the tools you need to fully embrace wellness as you experience the benefits of healthy living first-hand. Our initial program lasts six weeks, with shared learning and support. Each person begins by meeting with Dr Akoury, where lab work and the program itself are tailored to fit individual needs and concerns. Then, groups of 16-20 people will engage in four-hour sessions twice a week, in a stress-free setting situated the beautiful and modern Cinzia Spa, complete with  a kitchen and  exercise facilities.  What makes Lifestyle 101 stand apart is its blend of evidence-based medicine and a group wellness experience. Our medical and beauty wellness experts will guide you as you set specific, achievable goals for your personal health and well-being. You will benefit from the expert feedback they provide, helping you to progress to your own optimal level of wellness.

Lifestyle 101 addresses four key components of a healthy lifestyle: nutrition, exercise, stress management, and spirituality.

Food is Medicine

An experienced medical nutritionist  will offer nutrition education specific to your individual needs, preferences, and habits.
You. will visit the grocery store on a group field trip and learn to make healthy selections up and down the aisles. In hands-on kitchen skills sessions, will guide and teach you how to make whole and healthy food delicious.

Exercise.

Our Cinzia exercise physiologists will help you to customize workouts that include walking, resistance training, and other physical activities. You will learn exercises that can easily continue at home with hand weights, exercise balls, and stretch bands.

Stress management.

You will learn stress management techniques with our experts, who will lend support as you practice until you master them. A first class certified Yoga instructor will teach you simple postures and breathing exercises to help you unwind, and a Reiki Master will guide you as you learn to release tension from your mind and spirit.

Spirituality.

In a way free of religion, our spirituality coaches will help you find your place and connection to everything around you. You will discover how important this is, and how this connection impacts your health. After you complete the initial six week program of 12 four-hour sessions, you will receive a CD containing each presentation, and be enrolled in five follow-up sessions over the following year. You will then be eligible for additional sessions in subsequent years, as well as becoming a lifetime member of the AWAREness Accountable program.
