Can Cosmetic Products Cause Cancer?

Cosmetic Products that Cause Breast Cancer

Cosmetic ProductsCosmetic products are made from various ingredients that are majorly given chemicals. These cosmetic products are largely used by women for the purpose of beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance. Some of the cosmetic products that are widely used by women include moisturizers, perfumes, lipsticks, fingernail polishes, eye and facial makeup, shampoos, permanent waves, hair colors, toothpastes, and deodorants. These cosmetic are part of our lives. not only women use cosmetic products, men too have their choice and preferences when it comes to the use of these cosmetic products after all we all have skins to take care of so if you find a man using some moisturizing lotion on his skin, it should not be a surprise to you.

Most if not all of the cosmetics have to be tested by various bodies to ensure that they are safe to be used on human beings. One of the bodies that test these cosmetics for safety before approving them is the food and Drug Act (FDA). however FDA may not be able to test all the cosmetic products that are produced locally in different countries and every country has its own body that does this, however these bodies may not be able to effectively give us reliable when it comes to which cosmetic products are safe and which ones are not, they are mostly manipulate by the governments who may at times become part of business that deal in these cosmetics hence making it difficult to get safety information from these bodies; this is true, we live in a man eat man society where brains are obsessed by pursuit of supernormal profits even if it costs lives. The truth however is bitter, some of the chemicals that are used in these cosmetics as ingredients are very toxic and can cause various cancers. Establishing this link has however been difficult due to the fact that most cosmetics are made from a cocktail of chemicals and not necessarily one chemical, another reason why it hasn’t been easy to be certain that cosmetics may cause cancer is that many products and ingredients have not been tested thoroughly. Even when ingredients in cosmetics have been tested, the results may not always be simple as always illustrated in the tests as the way chemical reacts in labs isn’t the same ways they will when absorbed. Though some ingredients are known to be dangerous in high concentrations, the amounts that are used in making of these cosmetics may be lower than the dangerous limits, hence may not reflect on what is found in studies. Also the way the ingredient is used in a cosmetic may be different from how it was used in the tests. Most tests have also failed to show which chemicals are absorbed in the body and how this happens therefore it hasn’t been easy to establish the link between cosmetics and breast cancer. However there are some ingredients that have been used in cosmetics that for a long time have been speculated as capable of causing breast cancer among other cancers. These chemicals include the following;

Parabens

The most common forms of parabens includes; methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, and butylparaben. Parabens are chemicals commonly used as preservatives in many cosmetic products, including makeup, moisturizers, and hair care products, and shaving creams or gels. Parabens are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics; however most of the known brands of antiperspirants and deodorants don’t contain parabens. Cosmetics that contain parabens may pose health threat as they penetrate the body and once in they mimic the activities of estrogen in the body. The parabens have the potential of turning on the growth of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers. Parabens have been found in breast tissues of breast cancer patients and though this may not mean much, if the fact that it mimics estrogen hormone speaks volumes. We have always known that any chemical that causes disruption in the endocrine functions has a potential of causing cancer. However there is still lots of research that is needed to help us know the level of concentrations of estrogen is dangerous and can potentially cause breast cancer.

Phthalates

Cosmetic ProductsThese are commonly used to hold color and reduce brittleness in nail polish and hair spray. Apart from their use in nail polish, phthalates are also commonly used as a component of many personal care and cleaning product fragrances. Just like the parabens the Phthalates are a hormone disruptor. Unlike parabens however they don’t tend to mimic the functions of estrogen but they cause hormonal imbalance especially those that interact with estrogen such as testosterone. For these reasons any phthalates compound has attracted speculation as a potential cause of breast cancer. If you may decide to stay away from these two ingredients of cosmetics, check on ingredients of cosmetics on stores just to be at safer grounds.

Generally, there might be other chemicals that are endocrine disruptors; these are considered dangerous as they can mimic the functions of estrogens which are known to cause breast cancer. There is however controversy on whether exposure to small amounts of chemicals that mimic estrogen can cause breast cancer. As an individual it is better safe than sorry, so do as much as you can to evade these endocrine disruptors as their effects are obvious. Adrenal Fatigue and Fibromyalgia

Relating Adrenal Fatigue and Fibromyalgia

Adrenal fatigueThe adrenal glands play very crucial lives in our bodies. These glands are responsible for four major hormones; Adrenaline, Cortisol, DHEA-S, Aldosterone and Androgen. These hormones are charged with specific roles in our bodies. Both Adrenaline and Cortisol are your “flight or fight” hormones and are produced in response to stress. In particular, cortisol provides a short-term increase in blood sugar and blood pressure. By increasing the blood sugar and pressure it can be seen that the body will be empowered as it shall have enough energy to respond to any environmental stress. . When these stresses extend for a longer period of time, the Adrenal gland continues to pump out Adrenaline and Cortisol in response which will result in adrenal fatigue.

Signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue

What is fibromyalgia?

Just like adrenal fatigue, fibromyalgia has been linked to exposure to stress. This disease is characterized by widespread muscle pain, joint stiffness, and fatigue. The condition is chronic but pain comes and goes and moves about the body. The cause of this disorder is unknown and therefore it is often misdiagnosed or unrecognized and is most of the times complicated by anxiety and mood disorders. The cause of fibromyalgia has been attributed to stress but again there is no research that has been done to prove that stress is the cause of fibromyalgia. The disease causes deep muscle pain but its cause is still unknown. Those suffering from fibromyalgia will suffer from lack of energy and will feel exhausted most of the time.

Typically, when a person is exposed to stress, the level of cortisol will be elevated so highly that its production will be maimed as the adrenal glands fatigue, and eventually become exhausted. When a person is exposed to high stress level there will be a decrease in DHEA levels with a rise in cortisol. The decrease in DHEA and rise in cortisol level will result in an increased ratio of cortisol to DHEA. As with most hormonal systems, there is a negative feedback loop that limits the production of each hormone once it hits its target level. The same occurs in the case of cortisol.

In case of prolonged stress when there is a feeling that the body is at risk and has to act in order to survive, the cortisol output will actually diminish the feedback response. This action is ultra what is expected in that instead of the feedback loop shutting down cortisol production when the levels get high, the body reacts by increasing its level even more. But since cortisol is the body’s primary anti-stress hormone, it will interpret a very high cortisol level as impending and life-threatening danger. In this situation, there is actually a blunting effect on the feedback loop allowing it to spin increasingly out of control. More cortisol will therefore be produced even though your body becomes increasingly resistant to its release. This is the way the body reacts in order to survive during high level of stress it is exposed to. However when this continues for quite a long time then the adrenal glands will become fatigued resulting to plethora of diseases

Are adrenal fatigue and fibromyalgia related?

To begin with these are diseases that until now are little understood. The researchers that have worked on either of the diseases have linked their cause to exposure to high stress levels. However this theory is yet to be proved. there is still little literature in this area of medicine and hope can only be held that in the near future researchers will come up with real causes of these two disorders or better yet come up with good explanations that these two disorders are caused by exposure to high stress levels as have been speculated. It’s only prudent to work with the basis that researchers have availed and by this said I mean that when accept the theory that these two disorders are caused by exposure to high stress then the link between the two is rather easy to find. the major reasons of the adrenal glands is to release hormones that are used in fighting stress therefore when your glands are not able to do that you become more prone to stress and therefore fibromyalgia. There have been theories that adrenal fatigue can cause fibromyalgia but such theories are baseless as these two diseases are seemingly caused by one factor; prolonged stress. However these two diseases share a common symptom which is fatigue. A person who is suffering from any of the diseases will most of the time be worn out.

Can adrenal fatigue and fibromyalgia be treated?

Adrenal fatigueWhen it comes to treatment of these diseases, they seem to diverge. As opposed to adrenal fatigue, fibromyalgia is a complex disease that has no cure. There are some medicines that can be used to help you mitigate on the debilitating effects of the disease. As for adrenal fatigue there are many ways that it can be combated. There is a lifestyle change that when adopted then the condition can be healed and the adrenal gland be restored. Better diet that is free from gluten, sleeping well for at least seven hours a night and limiting caffeine and lots of exercises can help in treatment of adrenal fatigue.

The normal stress of everyday life affects people differently. Adrenal fatigue and fibromyalgia are two common diseases that occur when stressors overwhelm your ability to fight them off. Mitochondrial Rejuvenation

Fibromyalgia with IV NAD and Mitochondrial Rejuvenation

MitochondrialMitochondrial plays very crucial in the body. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the body as it is where energy is made. They are organelles that take in nutrients, break them down, and create energy rich molecules for the cell. Many of the reactions involved in cellular respiration happen in the mitochondria. Mitochondria are the working organelles that keep the cell full of energy. Different cells have different amounts of energy. While there are cells that have no mitochondrion, the muscle cells need to have lots of these mitochondria as they need lots of energy to accomplish their functions. Neurons are also important in the body and they too need good amount of mitochondria to serve their purposes, however they do not need as much mitochondria as the muscle cells. These organelles are very vital in the cells as they generate energy which is the mostly utilized by the cells therefore any dysfunction within the mitochondria can cause serious problems such as fatigue which is a common symptom of those suffering from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Recently researchers have been able to establish a link between mitochondrial dysfunction and fibromyalgia. Findings of researchers are pointing at mitochondrial dysfunction as a possible cause of fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain, joint stiffness, and fatigue. The condition is chronic but pain comes and goes and moves about the body. The cause of this disorder is unknown and therefore it is often misdiagnosed or unrecognized and is most of the times complicated by anxiety and mood disorders. this is a common disorder that according to the American College of Rheumatology diagnosis criteria affects about 3-5% of women, most of whom are between ages 20 and 50, but only 0.5- 1.6% of men. This disease is more common in adults than in children but it affects women more than men. The exact cause of fibromyalgia isn’t yet known but researchers have been trying to join dots and come up with explanations to support the possible causes that they have come up with. Mitochondrial dysfunction is one of the possible causes that have been stated by many researchers.

About 6 years ago, researchers showed that the muscles of fibromyalgia patients did not have adequate amounts of mitochondria. these researchers also noticed that even the shape of mitochondria in the muscle tissues of the fibromyalgia patients was irregular as compared to control subjects who were in the of the same age. However these findings were not explained and this prompted biologists from Spain known as Mario Cordero, Ph.D. and Placid Nava’s, Ph.D., to begin looking into an enzyme that is needed by the mitochondria: Co-Enzyme-Q10 (CoQ10). CoQ10 is an essential enzyme for detoxifying or neutralizing nasty waste products produced by the cells. The wastes that are produced by the cells are often reactive oxygen species since they react with and degrade anything that they come in contact with. Higher levels of reactive oxygen species have been found in patients with fibromyalgia and the higher levels tend to correspond to more pain. Just a year ago Cordero and Nava’s found that the CoQ10 content in the blood cells of fibromyalgia patients was 40 percent less than age-matched healthy control subjects. However, in the nutrient-rich liquid portion of the blood, the CoQ10 concentration for fibromyalgia patients was double that of the healthy controls. This imbalance in distribution of this enzyme has made Cordero and his team to do more research and establish the cause of this imbalance. These researchers noticed that the level of ROS was higher in fibromyalgia patients and this leads to programmed destruction of mitochondria.

When the levels of ROS are elevated it will lead to more tissue damage, nerve irritation. The imbalance in CoQ10 and loss of mitochondria could be linked to other symptoms that commonly occur in fibromyalgia. A reduction in mitochondria could lead to muscle weakness, more fatigue, and less ability to tolerate physical activities without flaring with more pain and exhaustion. This therefore means that if mitochondria can be rejuvenated then it can help in reducing the pain as well as support fibromyalgia treatment.

Rejuvenating Mitochondria with IV NAD

MitochondrialNAD is an abbreviation of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is a coenzyme that is present in all living cells. The compound is a dinucleotide; this simply means that it consists of two nucleotides joined through their phosphate groups. One nucleotide contains an adenine base and the other nicotinamide. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide exists in two forms, an oxidized and reduced form abbreviated as NAD+ and NADH respectively. The NAD and the NADH are crucial in the production of energy in the mitochondria. What happens after eating is that the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins and fats from our diet provide the building blocks to our bodies. Energy that is produced from citric acid cycle makes NAD and links it to hydrogen forming NADH which enters the electron transport chain in the mitochondria and is sparked with oxygen which breaks the nutrients to give energy through oxidation. This energy enables the heart to beat sufficiently and enable muscle contraction providing cellular energy that is required by the body cells to function. In fibromyalgia patients the level of mitochondria is low plus they are deformed. when a patient is put through an IV NAD therapy the level of NAD in the body is going to be high hence will be utilized in making energy in the mitochondria and help quell fatigue. NAD is also known to remove toxins like ROS that accumulate in the cells leading to programmed mitochondrial damage.

Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and The Healthy Brain

Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and The Healthy Brain

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia that affects the older generation. Dementia is simply the loss or decline of thinking ability. People with dementia have problems thinking, internalizing information and remembering. The behavior of a person changes with dementia in such away the quality of their life is affected. A person may suffer from either mild or severe dementia. In mild dementia, the disease is in its starting stage and only affects a few aspects of their life. In severe dementia, the person’s functioning is completely affected to an extent that they rely on other people to complete even the basic tasks. Studies have it that Alzheimer’s disease affects over 70% of people who suffer from dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by a significant decline of brain cells also known as neurons and deposits of beta-amyloid in the blood vessels located in the brain. In the case of Alzheimer’s disease, plaques and neurofibrillary tangles develop in the brain area. These changes take place in three areas of the brain from the hippocampus, cerebral cortex as well as the mid and temporal lobes. These are accompanied by declined acetylcholine concentration which is a neurotransmitter in the brain. Studies reveal that antioxidant deficiency promotes to the acceleration of the Alzheimer’s disease. Change of diet and taking plenty of supplements reduces a person’s risk to Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease

The Healthy Brain

Naturally the brain receives oxygen from veins, arteries and capillaries that network their way through it. The vascular system is controlled and it separates the brain form the rest of the circulatory system. This barrier keeps the brain from infections that may come along. If the brain however happens to be infected treatment is difficult since the antibiotics administered are too big to penetrate through this barrier. This is similar in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease since the medication must be able to pass through the barrier.

One area that Alzheimer’s disease affects is the middle and temporal lobes. These lobes are located behind the ears and the temples. This region is responsible for speech and memory as well as emotions like empathy and molarity. The hippocampus is also an area that is affected by the disease. This area of the brain is responsible for creation of new memories.

The cerebellum is located in the brain and is responsible for the storage of memories of the muscles which makes it easier for us to do things without thinking. The mid brain together with the brain stem is the most sensitive part. This is because body functions such as digestion and the heart rate are controlled by these parts. They also act as a border between the spinal cord and the other parts of the brain.

The brain contains over 100 million cells which are interconnected to form one complex system. Each day a healthy brain makes new connections which keep the brain in function. These connections change every day and this makes it possible for storage of memories, shaping personalities, changing f habits and reinforcements of different brain activity patterns as others are lost. The cells receiving the neurotransmitters send them to other cells to complete communication and an impulse is achieved.

Communication in the brain is made possible through synapses. Signals are sent from one synapse to another. The signals are inform chemicals known as neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are received by receptors located in the synapses

Alzheimer ’s disease And the Brain

One characteristic of the Alzheimer’s disease is the death of brain cells. Patients with Alzheimer’s disease usually have plaque and neurofibrillary tangles are deposited in the brain. The plaque deposits cause the impairment of synapses so that signals do not effectively pass through the brain cells. On the other hand the neurofibrillary tangles kill the cells in the brain making it difficult for energy and food to be normally transported through the cells in the brain.

The area that is initially affected by Alzheimer’s disease is the outer brain part. This is the part that is responsible for storage of short term memory. Therefore, the first symptom in a patient suffering from the disease is the loss of short term memory. As the disease continues to eat its way through the brain, eventually even the long term memory is lost. Behavioral aspects of a person also change because other parts of the brain get affected and their functioning impaired. This also affects the neurotransmitter concentration.

Addiction and Cancer Development

Role Of Addiction In Cancer Development.

Cancer developmentThe term addiction is not very friendly to many ears, it prickles and no one ever want to be associated to addiction as it’s a state that leaves you vulnerable and out of control of your life. depending on the drug or habit you are addicted jyou will suffer given symptoms some of which are very adverse. drugs of pleasure are a major curlprit of addiction as people will always tend to use them again and again to get the rare euphoric feelings which brings them closer to addiction by and by enslaving them in a tight grip they can’t break free from. Addiction bto certain drugs have also been linked to cancer development.

Dreaded by all cancer is a monster that has perfected the art of terrorism. It very expensive to manage and so the very day some people get the information that they are sick of this disease, that becomes a death sentence to them as they can’t afford to treat the disease. The disease is not easy cured though not incurable. However the cost of curing this disease has made it a death sentence to many people especially in the 3rd world countries where it has continued to rob people of their loved ones due to high bills that can never be afforded. The disease is synonymous to pain and this has made it the most dreaded disease. The fact that it can’t be easily treated therefore leaves us with one better option which is to avoid it all costs. Prevention is the best option when dealing with cancer. When it comes to avoiding cancer then whatever goes through your mouth becomes a concern, you need to eat healthy food and desist from anything that may beckon tumor growth and this include avoiding use of drugs that may eventually cause cancer. Addiction has very many health risks cancer development included. It is a known fact that smoking causes cancer and anybody addicted to tobacco has higher chances of developing cancer. However there are other drugs that when a person is addicted to then he comes closer to cancer.

Cigarette addiction causes cancer

cigarettes contains a concoction of about 5000 chemicals that are not very safe for health. It also contains nicotine which is very addictive. Taking it once may not be so dangerous but with the high nicotine content you are bound to get addicted exposing yourself to harmful chemicals. Other chemicals, including nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are formed when the tobacco leaves are processed or burnt. This is all before the tobacco industry adds the hundreds of other chemicals to cigarettes. This is why there is no safe way to use tobacco.

When you smoke the chemicals in cigarettes get into your body causing myriad of problems including cancer. The main way that smoking causes cancer is by damaging the DNA and altering the functioning of key genes that protect our bodies against cancer. Many of the chemicals found in cigarettes have been shown to cause DNA damage. These chemicals includes; benzene, polonium-210, benzo, pyrene and nitrosamines. Cigarettes also contain chromium which makes poisons like benzo and pyrene which stick even stronger to the DNA causing more harm. And chemicals like arsenic and nickel interfere with pathways for repairing damaged DNA. This makes it even more likely that damaged cells will eventually turn cancerous. Therefore to evade cancer you should try to avoid cigarettes addiction.

Smoking cigarettes causes cancer but that does not mean that when you smoke it once you will be cancerous, at the same time it does not mean that if you have been smoking cigarettes for a year and you are still cancer free then you can’t ever get cancer through smoking. Cancer is a multi-step disease-it grows over a long time; it may even take a decade for smoking to cause cancer. This is because naturally our bodies are designed to deal with a bit of damage but it’s hard for the body to cope with the number of harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke. Over time DNA damage builds up and makes it more and more likely that our cells will become cancerous. It is therefore necessary for a beginner to stop smiling before he becomes addicted as that will increase his chances of getting cancer.

Alcohol addiction linked to cancer

Alcohol consumption is common among people of different ages despite the many risks that it poses to a person’s health. Alcohol addiction has been linked to cancer though researchers are yet to understand how it directly beckons cancer. Here are some of the ways alcohol addiction is thought to cause cancer. Firstly, when alcohol is taken it is converted into a very harmful chemical known as acetaldehyde. This chemical can cause cancer by damaging DNA and stopping our cells from repairing this damage. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified acetaldehyde formed as a result of drinking alcohol as being a cause of cancer. Acetaldehyde also causes liver cells to grow faster than normal. These regenerating cells are more likely to pick up changes in their genes that could lead to cancer.

Cancer developmentAlcohol also affects the delicate balance between estrogen and testosterone hormones. When the levels of estrogen hormone become then the risk of breast cancer is increased. Alcohol can cause cancers through many ways and therefore it is necessary to avoid alcohol addiction as that may favor cancer development.

Drug addiction is a vice that should be fought by all means that is why we at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center are committed to availing help to addicts and offering them a place to call home.
